Our Story

Get A Life Inc., established in 2007 by Dr. Leon Crawford, emerged from a vision to positively impact his community, drawing inspiration from The Dream Center in Los Angeles. After observing the benefits of providing free food, healthcare, and kindness, Dr. Crawford returned to Michigan, assembling a volunteer team committed to aiding the underserved. Their mission began with a simple question to the locals within a 16-block radius: "How can I help you?" This inquiry uncovered a significant demand for essential resources. The initiative started with weekly food box giveaways and soon incorporated yard maintenance services. From initially supporting 40 families with food and 15 with yard care, their reach expanded to 500 families monthly, thanks to a collaboration with Forgotten Harvest. Dr. Crawford, an advocate for children's welfare, launched initiatives to distribute bikes and toys at Christmas and shoes for the new school year, assisting over 250 kids. In 2018, he introduced the Boys2Men summer mentorship program, guiding young men towards self-reliance. His ongoing commitment includes the Highly Intelligent Male Mentor program and the upcoming Veterans Program.
